Tasting Notes
The 2016 Double Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the best attributes of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. After aging for 24 months in new Raymond Ailliers French Oak Barrels, the wine acquired the optimal measures of intensity and complexity to qualify for this extraordinary production.
Another impressive representation of the elegance and grace of Winemaker Alison Doran’s skills, this full-bodied, dense wine is richly laden with black and blue fruit preserves. The Hill Family Estates 2016 Double Barrel Cabernet offers a firm and ripe, grainy frame with spicy accents that leave a long-lasting and savory finish.

Why is this exquisite wine featured as a Double Barrel presentation, you may ask?
The answer is simple. Hill Family Estate Winery created their Double Barrel designation to highlight the best wines from each vintage. So unique is this production from the harvest of patriarch Doug Hill’s select hillside Napa vineyards that the winery limits their annual production of this label to only 50 cases.
Fifty cases, plus ten special edition 3-liter bottles, happens to represent the equivalent of two barrels of wine.
So, now you know the reason behind the Double-Barrel designation.
To underscore the “double-barreled” experience, a limited-edition box is available with three-bottle and 3-liter bottle orders. Proprietor Ryan Hill adds a bit of “distress” to the wooded boxes with #6 shot fired from his antique double-barrel, side-by-side shotgun. The process takes place, of course, before your wines are packed in these very special containers for shipping.
